The Organization for Women’s Empowerment and Development OWED, joined the rest of the world alongside some international and local Nongovernmental Organizations in the North West region to celebrate the World Humanitarian Day 2022 under the theme “It takes a village”
From football to performance and lots more, humanitarian workers commemorated the day honouring the essence of this day which pays tribute to humanitarian workers killed and injured in the course of their work, and to honour all aid and health workers who continue, despite the odds, to provide life-saving support and protection to people most in need.
It is often celebrated yearly, every Friday 19 August, in memory of the 19 August 2003 bomb attack that occurred in Canal Hotel Baghdad, Iraq, whereby some 22 people, including the chief humanitarian in Iraq, Sergio Vieira de Mello lost their lives. In 2009, the UN General Assembly formalized the day as World Humanitarian Day.
