In October 2023, the Organization for Women Empowerment and Development (OWED), in partnership with Green Partners Association, joined the rest of the world to commemorate the International Day of the Girl Child under the theme “Invest in Girls’ Rights: Our Leadership, Our Future.”
The celebration took place in the Donga Mantung Division, bringing together about 50 boys and girls for an engaging educational session on the rights of the girl child. Participants learned about equality, leadership, and the importance of creating safe spaces where girls can thrive, dream, and lead confidently.
As part of the event, OWED also carried out education on menstrual hygiene management, addressing the stigma and challenges girls face in managing their periods. To promote dignity and inclusion, over 30 girls received sanitary pads, ensuring that no girl misses school or opportunities because of menstruation.
This initiative reflects OWED’s ongoing commitment to advancing girls’ rights, promoting gender equality, and empowering young women to take charge of their future through education, awareness, and leadership.
