In May 2025, the Organization for Women Empowerment and Development (OWED) proudly celebrated Menstrual Hygiene Day under the inspiring global theme: “Together for a Period-Friendly World.”
As part of this celebration, OWED reached out to 52 adolescent girls and young women in Bamenda, empowering them with vital knowledge on menstrual health and mental well-being. The session focused on breaking menstrual taboos, helping young girls understand their bodies, and emphasizing the connection between menstruation and mental health—a topic often overlooked in menstrual education.
In addition to the educational session, OWED distributed menstrual hygiene kits to all participants, ensuring that no girl misses out on school or daily activities due to lack of access to menstrual products.
This impactful project was sponsored by Alliance Française Bamenda, whose continuous support has strengthened OWED’s mission of promoting menstrual equity and empowering women and girls to live with confidence, dignity, and pride.
