OWED Joins the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence 2024

In November 2024, the Organization for Women Empowerment and Development (OWED) joined forces with other civil society organizations in the North West Region of Cameroon to take part in the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV). This global campaign, observed annually from November 25th to December 10th, aims to raise awareness, demand accountability, and strengthen collective action to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls.

The 2024 edition was celebrated under the powerful theme: “Responding and Rebuilding After Abuse.” This theme emphasized the importance of providing survivors with the tools, resources, and support needed to heal, rebuild their confidence, and reintegrate into society.

During the campaign, OWED actively engaged in advocacy activities, public sensitization, and discussions centered on preventing GBV and strengthening community response systems. The organization also used the platform to call on local leaders, men, and boys to become allies in the fight against violence, highlighting that ending GBV requires the collective effort of everyone.

Through our participation, OWED reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to promoting gender equality, protecting the rights of women and girls, and ensuring that survivors are not defined by their trauma but by their resilience and courage.

At OWED, we believe that every woman and girl deserves a life free from fear, pain, and discrimination. Together, we stand strong—responding, rebuilding, and reshaping a future where safety, dignity, and equality prevail for all.
