In May 2023, the Organization for Women Empowerment and Development (OWED) joined forces with COMAGEND, Sustainable Women Organization, COEDEM, and Her Voice to celebrate World Menstrual Hygiene Day under the global theme: “Making menstruation a normal fact of life by 2030.”
The event brought together adolescent girls, young women, and community leaders to engage in open conversations about menstrual health, hygiene management, and breaking the stigma surrounding menstruation. Through interactive discussions, practical demonstrations, and awareness talks, participants were encouraged to view menstruation not as a source of shame or silence, but as a natural and empowering part of womanhood.
Representatives from the partner organisations emphasised the importance of collective action to ensure that by 2030, no girl or woman is held back because of her period. The celebration also focused on improving access to menstrual hygiene products and promoting education as a tool for empowerment and equality.
OWED remains committed to advancing menstrual health education and ensuring that every girl can manage her period with dignity, safety, and confidence.
