OWED Celebrates World Water Day 2023

In March 2023, the Organization for Women Empowerment and Development (OWED) proudly joined the global community in celebrating World Water Day under the theme: “Accelerating the Change to Solve the Water and Sanitation Crisis.”

Water is life, yet millions of people around the world still face challenges accessing safe drinking water and proper sanitation. At OWED, we believe that solving this crisis requires collective action, innovation, and community-driven solutions. Women and girls, in particular, bear the heaviest burden when water is scarce or unsafe—walking long distances, missing out on education, and facing health risks that could otherwise be prevented.

During this commemoration, OWED emphasized the urgent need for policies and community practices that ensure equitable access to clean water and sanitation. We also used this opportunity to engage with communities and raise awareness about the role women play in driving sustainable solutions to water challenges.

By accelerating change, we can ensure that every household, school, and healthcare facility has access to clean water—a right that is not a privilege but a necessity.

At OWED, we remain committed to advocating for gender-responsive approaches in addressing the water and sanitation crisis, ensuring that the voices of women and girls are at the center of every solution.

Together, we can accelerate change. Together, we can solve the water crisis.
